3 New Year's Resolutions For a Healthier Smile

Every New Year, many people set a goal to live a more productive, healthier, and happier life. Although most times people set health and fitness goals, we often forget about the importance of setting new year’s resolutions for our oral health. More often than not, setting goals for oral health is often overlooked. If you wish to take better care of your teeth and gums for the New Year and want to have a healthier and brighter smile, here are some helpful tips that will certainly pay off for the year and many years to come!

Improve your brushing and flossing habits

As most of us have heard by now, brushing and flossing your teeth regularly are absolutely crucial to your oral health. Therefore, it is imperative that you brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss your teeth at least once a day. It is important to use an ADA-approved, soft-bristled toothbrush (manual or electric) to ensure that your teeth are adequately brushed without hard or even medium-bristled toothbrushes that can harm your enamel. In addition, you should be flossing your teeth at least once a day to effectively remove any leftover plaque, food particles, and debris that your toothbrush is unable to reach.

Choose healthier foods and drinks

Another helpful tip to remember to maintain your oral health and overall health is to make healthier food and drink choices. Sugar-filled foods and drinks can be extremely harmful to your teeth, which can lead to tooth decay, cavities, damaged tooth enamel, and more. With that being said, be sure to consume foods and beverages that are beneficial to your teeth and overall health! Lastly, don’t forget to drink plenty of water. Water is essential when it comes to staying hydrated, but also it stimulates saliva production, neutralizes acids, and washes away debris in your mouth!

Schedule routine dental exams and cleanings

Last but not certainly not least, be sure to schedule routine dental exams and cleanings. Preventive dentistry is crucial to your oral health and keeps your teeth happy, healthy, and clean.
